Latios is in the Ubers tier whether or not it is holding the item Soul Dew. Even without holding Soul Dew it can get a maximum Speeed Stat of 350; this is more than most Pokémon in the Standard Metagame. It also has a very high Special Attack Stat that reaches over 350 without any boosts. The Special Attack difference between it and Latias is what makes it able to sweep an entire team with little set up being that it is faster than most other Pokémon. That is one of the characteristics of an Uber. It is able to get some of the kos that Latias can't get. This is why Latios is Uber.

Latios is best used as a special sweeper. In order to insure that it lasts longer, a Timid nature is recommended over Modest because going first is more important for Latios since its defenses aren't great. Soul Dew gives Latios the extra fire power and a nice Special Defense boost. If you are playing the Pokémon video games, it should be noted that Soul Dew has no effect in Battle Frontier. It would be way too easy if they allowed it. Sets that don't use Soul Dew that are meant for the Battle Frontier will be covered after the normal sets.

Latios

Latios@Soul Dew
Timid Nature
EVs: 252 Speed, 252 Special Attack, 6 Special Defense
Dragon Pulse/Draco Meteor
Thunderbolt
Shadow Ball
Grass Knot/Ice Beam

This set is designed to quickly ko the opponent by focusing on their weakness. Having a Speed Stat of 350 allows it to tie other Latios and Latias. It also is able to move before nonscarfed Palkia and Garchomp. It also has high Special Attack courtesy of Soul Dew and a base 130 Special Attack. Dragon Pulse is more commonly used than Draco Meteor because of the ability Pressure and so it doesn't have to switch out to regain it s Special Attack. By using Dragon Pulse, it is able to stay in and continue to sweep. Draco Meteor is an option if you absolutely want to deal certain OHKOs. Thunderbolt hits all Kyogre variations hard while Grass Knot is primarily for Groudon. Shadow Ball is used to defeat the Psychic Pokémon such as Mewtwo, who can't ohko Latios with a Special Attack, barring a critical hit. Ice Beam can be used to also OHKO Groudon if it is wanted. It isn't the recommended move choice though since Dragon Pulse hits the same Pokémon for double damage except Groudon. It is countered by Pokémon that are able to surive and then boost their defenses or have strong physical attacks.

Latios

Latios@Soul Dew
Timid Nature
EVs: 252 Special Attack, 188 Speed, 70 Special Defense
Dragon Dance
Dragon Pulse
Shadow Ball
Grass Knot

This set uses Dragon Dance in a different way. Instead of using it to boost your Attack Stat, it is used to up your Speed Stat. The evs are optimized to where it outruns Garchomp by 1 point if the Garchomp isn't scarfed. Unfortunately, Latios is unable to get to 334 Speed without a Speed boosting nature. By using the 188 Speed effort values, it is able to place some of them into Special Defense. Special Defense will work better for this Latios since it is holding Soul Dew. Special Attacks are also more common than physical ones. Ater using a Dragon Dance, its Speed Stat is 501, just shy of outspeeding Deoxys Speed Forme. Dragon Pulse is your attack of choice if no moves are super effective and hits for a lot of damage against any Pokémon. Shadow Ball is good for getting rid of those pesky Psychic Types and rarely, Shedinja. Grass knot is chosen since you only get one more slot for moves. It is able to hit both Kyogre and Groudon really hard. Make sure you come in at a good time though. If you come in too early, you won't be able to get the sweep. This set is vulnerable when it sets up a Dragon dance. After that, only a select few scarfed Pokémon can threaten it. Giratina particular the Origin Forme, is able to do over half of Latios's HP with Shadow Sneak.

Latios

Latios@Soul Dew
Jolly Nature
EVs: 252 Attack, 252 Speed, 6 Special Defense
Dragon Dance
Outrage/Dragon Claw
Earthquake
Draco Meteor

This set uses Latios in a completely new way. It attempts to sweep in a physical fashion. Many Pokémon are raised to be better at surviving special attacks. This takes advantage of that. One could certainly opt for a Hasty Nature instead of Jolly to make Draco Meteor do more damage. Another option is to switch to 188 Speed EVs and then put the remaining in Special Attack to give it a little extra boost. Dragon Claw will allow you to switch moves when you want, where as Outrage forces the attack to run its course before you can change moves. Most of the time, the extra damage will be appreciated. Earthquake hits well against those that resist Outrage/Dragon Claw. It will do neutral at worst since Skarmory isn't fit for Ubers. Draco Meteor gives you a very powerful attack against physical walls such as Dialga. If you would rather have Dragon Pulse so as not to reduce your Special Attack, it is an option available. This set is unusual and is more designed for specific teams. Soul Dew is used to raise its Special Defense primarily, it isn't so much for the Special Attack boost.

Latios

Latios@Soul Dew
Timid Nature
EVs: 252 Speed, 252 Special Attack, 6 Special Defense
Calm Mind
Dragon Pulse
Grass Knot
Shadow Ball

This is another set up set. It focuses on raising your Special Stats to deal very high damage while taking less from special attacks. Used in the right situation, you can pull off one or two Calm Minds boosting your Special Attack to incredible levels. Dragon Pulse hits everything hard after a Calm Mind. Grass Knot and Shadow Ball provide optimal coverage based on the Ubers Metagame without making yourself vulnerable. It is vulnerable while setting up so exercise caution about when to do a Calm Mind. It is very vulnerable to a scarfed Dialga, especially Outrage.

That covers Latios's main sets for Ubers. The next few sets are only for Battle Frontier; they should not be used anywhere else. They don't use Soul Dew and instead have to rely on other sources.

Latios

Latios@Choice Specs
Timid Nature
EVs: 252 Speed, 252 Special Attaack, 6 HP
Dragon Pulse/Draco Meteor
Thunderbolt
Surf
Grass Knot

If Latias can do well in OU with Choice Specs, so can Latios. Dragon Pulse delivers a does of high damage to virtually anything you will face in the Battle Frontier. It is only resisted by Steel Type Pokémon. Thunderbolt will hit all those that resist Dragon Pulse for neutral damage, save Magnezone. Magnezone will force you to switch out normally because of the threat of Thunder Wave. It is inadvisable to let Latios get paralyzed as then it becomes an easy target. Surf will work great against Heatran, Infernape, and Tyranitar. Grass Knot is for those Water Types that ae immune to Thunderbolt. Dragon pulse will most likely be your move of choice because it will deal the most damage to the most Pokémon. This set will occasional have to switch out so a good team mate is anything that is bulky enough to be taking hits.

Latios

Latios@Expert belt/Life Orb
Timid Nature
EVs: 252 Speed, 252 Special Attack, 6 HP
Dragon Pulse
Thunderbolt
Grass Knot
Shadow Ball

This set still deals the large damage without set up, but you are unrestricted as to which move you can use. Dragon Pulse is there for at least neutral damage on most Pokémon. The set is designed so you can hit many of the common threats for double damage. This will make Expert belt activate, dealing 25% more damage on top of the double damage. Life Orb provides a 30% boost to all its attacks, but you lose 10% of your HP eah time you do a damaging move. If you go with Life Orb, you may want to take out Shadow Ball for Recover. This will allow you to use powerful attacks repeatedly without fainting from the recoil damage. It is a very solid choice for the Battle Tower.

Latios

Latios@Expert Belt
Timid Nature
EVs: 252 Speed, 252 Special Attack, 6 HP
Calm Mind
Dragon Pulse/Draco Meteor
Surf
Thunderbolt

This set functions very similar to the Calm Mind set for Ubers. The main difference is you don't get the bonus of Soul Dew helping you on both offense and defense. You can set up in a good situation and then proceed to sweep with little fear in the Battle Frontier since very few Pokémon are scarfed or move before you when facing the computer. I don't have as much exerience with Battle Tower as far as facing real players so I can't tell you how many scarfed Pokémon there are.

Latios

Latios@Choice Scarf
Modest Nature/Timid nature
EVs: 252 Speed, 252 Special Attack, 6 HP
Dragon Pulse/Draco Meteor
Surf
Thunderbolt
Grass Knot/Shadow Ball

This set will use the Choice Scarf to make sure Latios will always move first. The boost that Choice Scarf provides to your Speed Stat allows you to be a Modest nature without much fear. This will allow you to deal higher damage than the other sets for the Battle Frontier that don't provide set up moves. The moves chosen will allow you to hit the most types effectively. Draco Meteor is an option over Dragon Pulse since this set functions more as a revenge killer than a special sweeper.

Latios truly is a wonderful Pokémon for any Uber or Battle Frontier team. It has the Speed and Special Attack necessary to get many kos. It has the move diversity to fill in gaps your team may have. While it does perform better in the Battle Frontier since you don't have to fear Darkrai, it still is quite effective in the Ubers Metagame. Faithful members of Lugia's Pokémon Island Forums will find that there is a secret set available, similar to Dialga.
